Spielberg's Cold War Thriller shot on Hawks

Steven Spielberg's latest film, Bridge of Spies, a Cold War story that revolves around an American lawyer recruited by the CIA to help rescue a pilot and stars Tom Hanks, Alan Alda, and Amy Ryan.

Cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski, chose Hawk Anamorphics. He selected an extensive collection of lenses, including HAWK V‑Lites, HAWK V‑Plus, and HAWK Vintage’74s for the film. Vantage provided the complete camera package, including Arricam Studio, Arricam Lite, Arriflex 435, and Arriflex 235 cameras.

Spielberg shot six weeks in New York City and six weeks in Berlin. Vantage equipped the production with the entire camera package at both locations. One week after the New York City wrap, the Berlin shooting began. Over 2600kg of equipment was packed up, shipped, tested, and ready for shooting on time. The logistical complexity of the job is the type of challenge that Vantage thrives on while the HAWK Anamorphics helped create the film’s distinct cinematic look.
