EnergaCamerimage 2020

Hawk Statement Regarding the International Film Festival Camerimage

We at Hawk look forward to November every year, because normally it means we’ll soon be gathering with dear friends – and making new ones – at the annual family reunion of cinematography, the EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival. This year, sadly, circumstances and caution will prevent us from reconvening in Torun.

Almost 30 years ago, Marek Zydowicz began with a vision, and a deep appreciation for cinematography. In the ensuing three decades, Camerimage has grown into perhaps the most important world event for cinematographers, bringing greater appreciation for their work to the international filmmaking community and beyond. This year, we will no doubt miss being physically together, but knowing the brilliance, dedication and resilient good humor of our hosts at the Tumult Foundation, we’re certain the online event will honor the art and its practitioners with all the bonhomie that we’ve come to cherish.

With all that in mind, we’ve been in constant contact with the Tumult Foundation Team regarding how best to support our friends on the Camerimage team through these uncertain times. Hawk has been a key sponsor of the festival for many years, and as a sign of our ongoing commitment and respect, we’ve made a significant contribution to this year’s event, which will take place completely online beginning November 14, 2020.

We sincerely congratulate all the nominees and honor the many superlative aesthetic achievements to be presented at Camerimage 2020. We’re eager to follow the festival in its virtual form, and we’re already looking forward to next November, when we can raise a glass together.

In the meantime, be safe. We’ll get through this together!
