The Weapons have arrived at Vantage, giving us our first hands-on look at the newest generation of RED Cameras, and Fabian Piehler, Head of Camera Operations, had this to say about them:
The new RED Weapon is lightweight, small, and powerful. The detail-oriented design and the carbon-fiber housing combine for a well-thought-out camera built for the set. They have definitely been listening to their customers.
Chris Schmid, Head of Digital and Optical Systems, focused on the new external and internal changes:
Red has learned a lot over of the past few years, and the new Red Weapon truly packs a punch. They have dramatically improved the overall usability of the camera and have made set-up much quicker and easier. For example, the touchscreen viewfinder attaches with integrated contacts and reduces the number of cables, important for a small camera. The new camera can record simultaneously in Red RAW and ProRes formats, a much-desired improvement.
The Red Weapons are already available for rental with us, but the highly anticipated 8K full-frame sensors will work perfectly with our new HAWK65 Front Anamorphic lenses, and we look forward to their release.
