The status indicator of the Fan-Control as well as the Manual-Fan-Off button are placed above the Fps-Display.

PSU Fan-Control
This new feature controls the complete cooling of the PSU and slows down the ventilation activity during sync-sound recording.
Thus the PSU becomes extremely silent as long as the shot is recorded. This allows to use the PSU close to the film camera
during sound recording. This function is controlled automatically.
More hard disc capacity
The PSU-1 has now a hard disc capacity of more than 60 hours recording time. This is sufficient space for more than 10.000 takes.

The test generator can be activated in the video out dialog. |
Test Generator
A test generator has been integrated into the PSU-1 which puts a test image and a test sound on the respective outputs. This
is of enormous help, when the numerous monitors in use have to be adjusted before shooting. This formerly time-consuming task
can now be finished very quickly.
Furthermore, the user interface, which is highly appreciated for its simplicity, has been improved again in some important aspects.
The Vantage PSU software can be updated and maintained via web. All PSU units available from our rental department generally
are equipped with the most current software version. Thus, our customers always enjoy the most advanced features.

"To sum up, I regard the PSU as a simplified mobile cutting room tailored to the requirements of a recording and its further
informative processing on the spot." Maria Procházková
The PSU on the set of 'Shark in the Head' in Prague - providing an immediate access to the footage.
During the shooting period the production team stored more than 3.000 shots, edited sequences and single frame visualisations. |
This is also valid for all other products from the Vantage rental department, e.g. the ARRICAM cameras which have undergone
numerous software updates since their launch.
Director Maria Procházková has been working with the PSU for six weeks during her latest project "Shark
in the Head". This is her experience:
"My impressions of working with the PSU when filming Shark in the Head
We took 30 days to make Shark in the Head, so I had time to get to know and appreciate the PSU in
practice. My general feeling was happiness. We used the PSU the whole time and there have never been any technical problems.
We also recorded rehearsals, so I had the option of making a rough cut to the previous shot, playing repeatedly for an actor
or the cinematographer, or simulating filming with another frequency. We did not film chronologically, so we often "listed"
through shots we already had and we appreciated the ease of searching. The PSU helped us when filming more complicated shots,
in particular multiple stop motion special effects, during which we were, for technical reasons, forced to move the camera;
thanks to the recording we were always able to return precisely to the original place.
The difference between the PSU and the usual use of a video recording device connected to a camera is obviously visible,
although I would say the following are the clear priorities: ease of use, transparency and access to stored shots, large
memory, the option of editing and storing whole edited sequences, the option of "taking material out" and the option of
simulating filming with another frequency.
To sum up, I regard the PSU as a simplified mobile cutting room tailored to the requirements of a recording and its further
informative processing on the spot."
