Vantage AI-One®

Image recording with a resolution of 5000 x 6000 pixels per frame at a camera speed from 24 fps to more than 400 fps represents an enormous challenge to hard- and software components of future high-end digital film cameras. Based on the microelectronics technology roadmap and engineering data available today, Vantage Film has created AI-One®, a vision of the core structure and functionality of a future camera for true digital cinema.

AI-One® will be the one important missing link for enabling true digital cinema right from the start of any film production. Current digital cinema activities rather focus on data compression, post-production support, archiving, digital film distribution and presentation technology for movie theaters.
AI-One® will be designed as a combination of three major units:
A very small camera-embedded multi-chip module (MCM) with the supercomputer processing power and data-bandwidth
A high-density, ultra-fast speed/medium capacity magnetic intermediate storage unit (MISU).
An external mass storage unit (SU) for holding many hours of uncompressed digital film image data
MCM key components
Ultra-fast 5000 x 6000 pixel image sensor. This chip will feature extremely sharp images, true colors and extremely high dynamic range
6 GHz+ 16-CPU multiprocessor-on-a-chip with integrated cache hierarchies. The chip is used for image grabbing, fast storage access, and for powering software for intelligent camera-control and production support at the set. A Linux-like operating system will serve as a stable system base for CPU, memory, file-system, communication and application-software control.
Communication chip. This chip will interact with system components that allow for monitoring, real-time digital effects and interaction with standard digital media and compression interfaces (JPEG2000, MPEG).
32 Gbytes+ fast DRAM as main memory
MISU key components
2 Terabytes local multi-disk magnetic intermediate storage for storing up to 10 minutes of uncompressed digital film at 25 fps. This unit will be based on technology innovations like GMR (gigantic magneto-resistive), EMR (extraordinary magneto-resistive) and CMR (colossal magneto-resistive) effects that enable data densities of up to one Terabit per square inch.
Ultrafast RAID-like storage controller with a wide interface to the MCM
SU key components
100+ Terabytes external multi-disk magnetic storage for storing several hours of uncompressed digital film. This unit will be based on even more revolutionary technology like HAMR (heat-assisted magnetic recording) that will enable recording densities of up to 50 Terabit per square inch.
Ultrafast RAID-like hierarchy-level-2 storage controller with wide interface to MCM and MISU.
